Rectory The rectory of St. Gregory's is located at the southern edge of Woodstock in a wooded area of homes that were mostly built in the 60's and 70's when IBM was the region's main employer. It is exactly two miles from the village green, which is the center of town, and from St. Gregory's church. The Woodstock elementary school is 1.5 miles from the rectory, as is the Hurley Ridge supermarket. A five minute drive along uncrowded roads will reach every main local feature from the town hall, to doctors and lawyers, schools, the movie theater, the Summerstock theater, and two large parks. The 40-acre upper park has soccer fields, wooded trails and open fields with breathtaking views of the Catskills. The lower park focuses primarily on recreation. A public swimming pool, softball diamonds and a skateboard facility are kept busy in the warmer seasons. The big Kingston Mall is an easy twenty minute drive eight miles to the east and has every type of mall activity from Macy's to Walmart. On Whitney Drive, the
rectory was one of many homes in the area built for flexible growth. The
split-level design with a big two-car garage on the lower ground floor is geared
to easy access and rooms that can be used for offices, dens, rec rooms or guest
bedrooms. The upper level has a large living room with fireplace and a dining
room that opens off the kitchen. Sliding doors lead out to a very large
screened in porch that looks out over the wooded back yard. Three bedrooms and
two bathrooms complete the upper floor. The neighborhood is generally quiet with
very light traffic. The average home lot is a shaded half-acre or more. |
